School Council

School Council is made up of parents and staff who want to work together to foster a safe and healthy environment for our children. You may not be aware that many of our initiatives are not time consuming. The time commitment is approximately 2-3 hours a month from Sept to June, and the council has no fund raising responsibilities.

School councils, now formally enshrined in the Education Act, provide advice to our principal and school board on school policies and procedures, curriculum goals and priorities, budget priorities and capital improvement plans, co-curricular activities, community partnerships and other facets of school life.

The meetings are a chance to learn about programs and events that are happening in the school. The school council acts as a parent advisory board for the principal and staff to communicate parent opinions on issues affecting the school community. You will have an opportunity to meet other parents and staff with many of the same interests. The council is always looking for new members, and values everyones thoughts and insight.

In the coming year, your St. Mary School Council will be providing meaningful input into such issues as:

How to get Involved in School Council

These are just a few examples of how the council participates in the school community. If you would be interested in participating, or would just like more information, please fill in the School Council Participation form (see link below) and return to the office. Your opinion counts, and its valuable time invested in our childrens future.

Council meets from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm usually on the last Monday of the month, four times per school year as follows: September, November, February and April.
