The Catholic School Advisory Council is made up of parents and staff who want to work together to foster a safe and healthy environment for our children. You may not be aware that many of our initiatives are not time consuming. The time commitment is approximately 2-3 hours a month from Sept to June, and the council has no fund raising responsibilities.
Advisory councils, now formally enshrined in the Education Act, provide advice to our principal and school board on school policies and procedures, curriculum goals and priorities, budget priorities and capital improvement plans, co-curricular activities, community partnerships and other facets of school life.
The meetings are a chance to learn about programs and events that are happening in the school. The Advisory council acts as a parent advisory board for the principal and staff to communicate parent opinions on issues affecting the school community. You will have an opportunity to meet other parents and staff with many of the same interests. The council is always looking for new members, and values everyone’s thoughts and insight.
In the coming year, your St. Mary Catholic School Advisory Council will be providing meaningful input into such issues as:
- How will we continue to support a wide variety of co-curricular activities for our students?
- How will we ensure a continued safe and secure environment for students?
- How can the Advisory Council better communicate and represent all parents?
- How can we encourage healthy active living for students?
