Hello, St. Mary’s families and staff –
We hope this email finds you well and know that we look forward to seeing everyone back in the building tomorrow.
As we prepare to return to school following the recent events that have impacted our community, we want to reach out to share the continued support that will occur as we transition back to school. We acknowledge the range of emotions that many may be experiencing following the events of last week. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our top priority, and we continue to work diligently to ensure that our school is a safe and supportive environment for everyone. Please know that Waterloo Regional Police Services established that there is no longer a threat to our school community and believe it is safe to return. Additionally, the following resources and measures are in place to support our community:
Safety Measures:
- Police presence around the school and in the surrounding area.
- School safety protocols are in place and continue to be reviewed to reflect on how we can best serve our community, as safety is our number one priority.
- Additional supervision throughout the halls and on our property.
- Safety drills have been conducted (and will continue to be) to ensure everyone is familiar with emergency procedures. They are completed in a calm and supportive manner to avoid causing additional stress.
Support Services:
- Guidance, CYCW, Social Work and Chaplain support and additional staff in these roles to meet the needs of our community and for those who may need to talk or seek guidance. These staff are equipped to provide support following stressful events.
- The Chapel will be open all day and can be accessed as needed.
- There will also be opportunity for classroom teachers to address and discuss the situation.
Communication:
- We have established a clear communication plan to keep you informed about any updates or changes.
- We will continue to have an open dialogue with your children about their feelings and reassure them that it’s understandable if they feel upset or anxious and encourage them to share their concerns with you or a trusted adult.
Please reach out to your child’s Guidance Counsellor or administrator should you have additional questions or needs. We are here to help.
As we return to our regular school routine, we will continue to support one another. Our strength lies in our unity and our commitment to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all. Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and resilience during this time. Together, we will move forward with confidence and care.
Take good care and we look forward to seeing everyone soon.
