Technological education programming at St. Mary’s recognizes that students learn best by doing. Through an activity-based, project-driven approach, students develop their problem solving abilities as they develop knowledge and skills and gain experience in the application of various technologies. Broad-based technology courses enable students to develop a variety of transferable skills that will serve them well in a complex and ever-changing workplace.
Grade 9 Exploring Technologies (TIJ1OI)
This course enables students to further explore and develop technological knowledge and skills introduced in the elementary science and technology program. Students will be given the opportunity to design and create products and/or provide services related to the various technological areas or industries, working with a variety of tools, equipment, and software commonly used in industry. Students will develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues, and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary education and training pathways leading to careers in technology-related fields.
Students are required to take a Technological Education course in either grade 9 or grade 10.
You are encouraged to consider whether to take Exploring Technology (TIJ1OI) in grade 9, or wait to take one of the specialized technology courses offered in grade 10:
