Students are required to complete 40 hours of community service in order to graduate. If you have not completed your hours yet, now is the time to start getting them done.

Here are a couple of helpful links:

– Looking for volunteer opportunities?  https://www.volunteerwr.ca/

– Unsure of the guidelines around community service hours? https://stmary.wcdsb.ca/student-supports/guidance/community-service/

– Need to submit your completed hours? https://lf.wcdsb.ca/Forms/APO015-01F

Please note you can use a maximum of 10 hours of paid employment as long as you complete a half page reflection on how your paid work has contributed to the service of others. Please email this reflection directly to your guidance counsellor. Some guiding questions to complete the reflection are found below:

·  What skills did you use in helping others?

·  How did you make a difference at work?

·  Describe the atmosphere of your site.  What did you hear, smell, feel, or taste?

·  How did people respond to you?  What did their body language tell you?

·  What problems did you experience?

·  What successes did you experience?

·  Describe a person at your site whom you find interesting or challenging.  Explain why.

·  What additional skills or knowledge would increase your ability to make a difference in your school or community?

·  How did your experience challenge your assumptions and stereotypes?

·  How do others benefit from your efforts?

·  Is making a difference easy or difficult?  What or who helps you make a difference?

·  If you were in charge of the place you work, what would you do to improve it?
