Explore Your Future – Career Expos

Grade 9-12 students and their parents/guardians are invited to attend “Explore Your Future” career expos being hosted on April 13 (Tapestry Hall in Cambridge) and May 17 (the Aud in Kitchener) from 5 – 8PM. These FREE drop-in style events are an excellent opportunity to learn about career options, volunteer opportunities and educational programs from 50+ local businesses, post-secondary institutions and community organizations. Kiwanis Bursary

The Kiwanis Club of Kitchener-Waterloo is offering eight $1000 bursaries to students in financial need who are making efforts to help finance their own education.

We are invited to submit two nominees from St Mary’s who are continuing their education in university, college, or another recognized institution next year.

Criteria:

  • Financial need (highest priority)
  • Contribution to the community and student activities
  • Efforts in school, and
  • Efforts to help finance own education.

Please note that a student’s marks are not the highest priority – in fact, the club is clear that they are looking to help students who are trying hard to continue to study, but who may not be achieving sufficient marks to earn academic scholarships.

US College Expo Event

On April 22, the US College Expo is hosting an in-person event at Roy Thomson Hall for high school students to meet with representatives, current students or alumni from various universities across the United States including Harvard, Princeton, Duke, UC Berkeley, NYU, UMich and many more! We are pleased to announce that we have an incredible lineup of guest speakers, top attending colleges, and even esports!

Tuition-Free Pre-Apprenticeship Training Programs

Conestoga College’s new tuition-free Pre-Apprenticeship Training programs prepare students for in-demand careers and provide a head start for those wishing to start a career in trades: General Carpenter/Cabinetmaker, Introduction to Construction Trades (Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, and Welding) and Welder/ Metal Fabricator.  Details below.  Enrollment is limited!

 

General Carpenter Pre-Apprenticeship
New Skilled Trades Campus (Cambridge Reuter Drive)
Starting July 24, 2023

This full-time program will offer a blend of theory delivery with shop classes at Conestoga’s New Skilled Trades campus (Cambridge Reuter Drive) over the course of 21 weeks. The General Carpenter Pre-Apprenticeship program includes Level 1 apprenticeship in-class training, trade exposure in Cabinetmaking, and an additional eight-week practical work placement experience. Applications from candidates under 30 will be given first consideration, although all applications will be considered.

Electrician Pre-Apprenticeship Training Applications Open

Are you serious about pursuing an apprenticeship as an electrician?

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) offers a pre-apprenticeship training program for a limited number of qualified applicants.  Carefully read all sections on the website linked below and pay close attention to the requirements for this program before you apply.  The application deadline is April 21st.
